Welcome!

Welcome to the website of the History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences Research Group of Faculty of Physics, University of Athens.

The man from his appearance on Earth is in a constant interaction with nature. "Divine curiosity" as described by Einstein as an excuse of origin for all technical scientific achievements, is ahead of creating cultures and recording of history. The philosophical thinking about the natural world goes back to ancient Greece. The thought of the first philosophers of the pre-Socratic period, Thales, Anaximander, Parmenides, Heraclitus, Democritus and many others, is focused on the natural world, while Aristotelian worldview prevalent for centuries and is rooted in Western Culture at least until the Galilean Era that marks the beginning of the second scientific revolution.

The study of History and Philosophy of Astronomy and Physical Sciences is nowadays imperative, both in science from which we draw inspiration for future research, as in philosophical study because... "a science without the knowledge of history has not future, but when ignorance and Philosophy has no vision".

On our website you will find our scientific work and information about upcoming conferences and seminars at our research fields.
